ANGELES CITY -- A city official here on Wednesday said the Public Transport Regulatory Office (PTRO) is now ready to implement the ordinance regulating tricycle fares.

Councilor Rudy Simeon said the PTRO headed by Ed Sibug has already prepared the new fare matrix, which will be posted inside tricycles plying the city.

The ordinance should be implemented by November 15.

Tricycle drivers and operators will be given two weeks to secure the new fare matrix, according to Simeon.

Mayor Francis "Blueboy" Nepomuceno earlier directed the PTRO here to strictly enforce the ordinance.

Nepomuceno said there is a need for the strict implementation of City Ordinance 230, Series of 2008 known as "An ordinance amending Ordinance 27, Series of 1992 regulating the operation of tricycle by fixing tricycle fares within the city boundaries.

He even appealed to tricycle drivers and operators to charge the riding public in accordance with the fare matrix.

A minimum fare was pegged at P20 for the first kilometer and additional P5 per succeeding kilometer.

For special trips, a minimum fare shall be P20 for first the kilometer and additional P20 for the second kilometer and P10 for the third and succeeding kilometers.

The ordinance states that students, disabled persons, and senior citizens shall be charged a discounted rate of P15 minimum fare and additional P2 per succeeding kilometer.

Drivers and operators are also required to post fare matrix inside their respective tricycle. They are also asked to accept all passengers irrespective of gender, status, age or physical condition.

Violators will be fined P1,000 or an imprisonment of one month for the first offense, P2,000 or two months imprisonment for the second offense, and P3,000 fine and six months imprisonment and cancellation of Motorized Tricycle Operators Permit (MTOP) for the third offense.

The fair matrix will eliminate the imposition of different and exorbitant fares to the commuters, according to Nepomuceno.

Simeon said there are about 7,500 tricycles all over the city.

Editors note:

I am optimistic that this whole proposal will go thru.  With the average pay a Philippines national gets, the standard 50 peso and up trike fare is bullshit.

For us mongerers, hopefully this will end the price gouging we see here everyday.
